Sunday Worship

The Sunday Morning Worship service is God’s service to us as he calls us to himself, and dialogues with us through prayer, song, the Lord’s Supper, and the reading of His word. Our weekly service contains a mixture of traditional and more contemporary elements. The different parts of the service are carefully planned because of how they relate to the service as a whole and to the community with which we worship in. The service typically lasts about 90 minutes and includes song, prayer, scripture, a sermon, and the Lord’s Supper.

Our Children’s ministry is available part way through the service for children through age five.  The children join us again after the sermon to participate in singing.

Order of Service

God Call’s

We cannot call ourselves to worship. It is God who calls and God who serves us Sunday morning. Of course we are very important participants, and we cannot forget it is a two way dialogue, but it begins with God calling and then we can respond accordingly.

Every sunday the first indication that things are starting is the prelude. The prelude is the precursor to anything that morning. It is what draws us in together and gives us a moment to take a breath and rest as we being our morning of rest in the Lord together.

After that there is the verbal and responsive call to worship which is typically taken from, or adapted from, a Psalm.

Songs of Faith and Assurance

After the call we respond with songs of faith, and praise, remembering the things God has done. Often times we also add a confession shortly after the first song of praise so we never forget our need for repentance and forgiveness.

Passing the Peace

Then, after the first few songs, we take a short “Break” for an extended time of caffeinating ourselves and greeting each other. I remember growing up in church and never liking the quick “shake hands of the people in front and in back of you and sit down” moments. We give a good amount of intentional time here to really welcome each other.

This is especially appropriate as we have just been called together by God and responded corporately in praise. Now we turn attention to each other in our worship, to extend the hand of fellowship to our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

God’s Word

Next we hear the word of God read aloud and preached from. The hallmark of any Christ centered church is Christ centered songs and Preaching.

After the word of God we spend time reflecting through quiet prayer, and responding through the Lord’s Supper(which we take every week).

The Lord Be Praised

We finish of the service singing songs of praise in responce to God’s Word and the table that we just ate from.

The last thing that happens is the benediction which is what bookmarks the services as it sends and commisions us out into the world to spread the kingdom of God wherever we are.
